Carey Bay Toronto Scouts Callum Reynolds and Raistlin McLachlin are on a mission to keep the city clean this Clean Up Australia Day.
The scouts will be out in force this Sunday, scouring the foreshore at Blackalls Park for unwanted items.
"We have so much beautiful wildlife and nature - it's important we keep everything safe," Mr Reynolds said.
More than a hundred Clean Up Australia Day sites were run by 58 community and youth groups, 38 schools and eight businesses across the city last year.
More than 9000 volunteers collected more than seven tonnes of rubbish.
"Last year, we found two bags of rubbish, which is upsetting because it shows people are littering," Mr McLachlin said.
"When you're finished using your rubbish, put it in the bin. If it's recyclable put it in the recycling bin.
"It could ensure endangered animals and other animals don't eat rubbish and get sick."
Lake Macquarie Mayor Adam Shultz encouraged community members to sign up and volunteer at the free event this weekend.
"Events like this show the power of community spirit. Every small effort adds up to make a big difference in keeping our city clean and beautiful for future generations," he said.
"It's important to adopt positive recycling practices and responsible waste disposal to keep our stunning landscape clean and thriving all year long."
