Stan has announced the commission of the Stan Original Documentary Revealed: Renee Gracie. Written and directed by Frances Elliott and Samantha Marlowe and produced by Cody Greenwood, Revealed: Renee Gracie will commence production this year with investment from Screen Australia, Screenwest and Lotterywest.
Revealed: Renee Gracie follows the first Australian woman to compete full-time in Supercars in fourteen years, Renee Gracie, as she attempts to re-enter V8 racing since retiring from the sport in 2017. Using Renee's individual experiences Revealed: Renee Gracie is a story about exploitation, empowerment and resilience, and is a showcase of what women have to do to succeed, thrive and survive in a man's world.
Screen Australia's Head of Documentary Alex West said, "We are proud to support the talented writer/directors Frances Elliott and Samantha Marlowe and producer Cody Greenwood, who have a proven track record of crafting engaging documentaries. Not only is Revealed: Renee Gracie set to shine a necessary light on gender inequality, stigma and prejudice in sport and beyond, but it shares honest insights into Renee's empowering origin-turned-comeback story – making for a compelling watch on Stan."
Stan Chief Content Officer Cailah Scobie said, "Stan's acclaimed Revealed slate has been a hugely successful collaborative partnership sharing uniquely Australian stories from an outstanding collection of Directors, Producers and Journalists including the multi-award winning Nick McKenzie from The Sydney Morning Herald/The Age and 60 Minutes and John Silvester from The Age. Our commitment to invest and produce local original documentaries that take a deep dive into Australian contemporary topics and issues can be seen in our upcoming addition to the slate, Revealed: Renee Gracie. We can't wait to work closely with Rush Films to tell Renee's story and continue our dedication to produce bold, unique and investigative content, not seen on any other platform."
A former Go-Karting star, at 18 Renee Gracie became the first female to compete in the Australian Porsche Carrera Cup in 2013 and 2014. After two seasons, she began professionally racing V8's in Supercars and was the first full-time female competitor in the category in 14 years. Her Bathurst entry with Simona De Silvestro in 2015 was the first all-female combination to contest the Great Race since 1998. Despite this achievement and breaking records, Renee found herself struggling to make a place for herself in a field heavily dominated by men and eventually retired in 2017. Turning to OnlyFans to raise funds for her racing comeback, within two years Renee became Australia's biggest earner on the site.
Revealed: Renee Gracie is an unconventional success story that will follow Renee's journey back into racing and her intention to re-enter as a wildcard for the iconic Bathurst 1000 race.
