Southern Cross University's Early Offer program is now open to Year 12 students looking to study at uni next year. Education student and SCU Buzz host Blake sat down with Future Students Officer Jo to find out everything high school students need to know.
Welcome to the podcast, Jo. To start off, what is the Early Offer program?
The Early Offer Program is a free application process for Year 12 students to apply to study here at Southern Cross University while they're still at school. It's designed to secure a place, open doors to scholarships and start the student journey before finishing Year 12.
How does the Early Offer Program work and what do Year 12 students need to do?
All they have to do is jump onto our website and find the Early Offer page. My advice before doing this is to do a bit of research about what course you want to study and what location. You can only select one course for your Early Offer. However, if you do change your mind later in the year, you can contact us and we can amend your application. Fill out your personal details and choose your course and location. You'll then receive an email from our admissions centre saying thank you for your application, and it will give you a student ID number.
Once we receive your application, we then work really closely with your school and get a recommendation for each student. And what this recommendation is, it's in the form of a predicted ATAR. And the reason why we do this is so we can see where the student is sitting academically. So, we can make an assessment for the best pathway into university. Say, for example, you wanted to study engineering but your predicted ATAR wasn't quite there. We may offer you a Diploma of Engineering or Transition to Uni, a free bridging course that will give you the skill set to succeed at university. So, every person that applies for an early offer will be guaranteed an offer from Southern Cross University. We want to set you up for success.
Are Early Offer applicants eligible for scholarships?
A thing that's so great about getting the predicted data is it opens up a whole range of scholarships. At the start of 2024, we gave out over 130 scholarships to school-leavers commencing their studies.
What are the key dates for 2024?
Early Offer applications are now open and close on 30 September 2024. After this, we will contact your school to get those recommendations by 31 October 2024. Offers will be sent out as early as 13 November 2024. So, you will receive an offer before ATAR results are released.
