Search and Rescue Operation Underway Off Lady Elliot Island

A 65-year-old man has been located deceased following a fatal marine incident near Lady Elliot Island near Gladstone this morning, June 16.

A yacht was travelling from Yeppoon to Brisbane when it activated an Epirb approximately four nautical miles south of the island at 5am.

Police and emergency services commenced a search and rescue operation involving multiple vessels, police divers and the rescue helicopter.

Just after 10.15am, the rescue helicopter located two people in the water.

The 62-year-old Yeppoon man and 27-year-old Yeppoon man remain in stable conditions at Bundaberg Hospital.

Just after 2pm, water police recovered the body of a 65-year-old Yeppoon man.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.

Marine Safety Queensland has been advised.
