Sec. Gen. Joins European Political Summit in Budapest

The Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset, attended the summit of heads of state or governments at the fifth meeting of European Political Community on 7 November in Budapest. At the meeting, Mr Berset had a number of exchanges including with President Maia Sandu, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Concluding his participation in the summit, the Secretary General said:

"Representing 46 member states, the Council of Europe is an essential partner of the European Political Community, in particular as regards our support for Ukraine and our work to establish accountability for Russia's crime of aggression. I wish to thank the Hungarian government for hosting the meeting, which provided an important platform for European leaders to discuss current challenges and areas of cooperation. I look forward to participating in the next summit in Albania in 2025."
