Second Book Launch For Local Illustrator

Mount Gambier Library will host a special family event with author Kristin Martin and local illustrator Bianca Richardson to celebrate the launch of their second book 'Honey Possum's Bush Café' on Saturday 15 March at 11:00am.

Following the success of their first picture book 'Banjo Frog's Concert Spectacular', 'Honey Possum's Bush Café' is the second in the series which sets out to explain to children how introduced wild rabbits affect native plants and animals.

Set in the Stirling Ranges in southwest Western Australia, the book features much loved character Easter Bilby while also introducing some new native wildlife.

Author Kristin Martin, who wrote the story back in 2023 based on discussions with Vicki Linton from the Foundation for Rabbit Free Australia, said she is excited to see the story come to life.

"With Bianca's gorgeous characters and design we have created a charming book that children will enjoy and hopefully learn from without even realising they're learning," Ms Martin said.

Mount Gambier designer and illustrator Bianca Richardson says she is looking forward to launching the book at her local Library.

The local support has been so heart-warming and the biggest indicator of success to me has been the interest from the children, and of course the special people in their life who are purchasing this book. - Illustrator Bianca Richardson

"It has also been wonderful to work alongside Kristin again. We are very fortunate to have this author/illustrator relationship where we can communicate throughout the whole process - from what I am learning, this is unique in the world of publishing children's books."

The event is family friendly featuring a book reading, followed by a children's activity with 'Honey Possum's Bush Cafe' available for sale and signing on the day.

Bookings can be made through Mount Gambier Library on (08) 8721 2540 or online at www.mountgambier.sa.gov.au/library under 'Programs and Events'.
