Second Man Charged in Eastern Suburbs Vehicle Damage

A second man has been charged after 10 vehicles and buildings were damaged in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs last week.

About 12.30am on Thursday 21 November 2024, emergency services responded to reports of a vehicle on fire on Wellington Street, Woollahra.

Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the fire; however, the vehicle was destroyed.

This vehicle and a further nine vehicles parked along Wellington Street, Tara Street, Fullerton Street and Ocean Street were also allegedly graffitied.

Another vehicle allegedly received minor damage as a result of the fire. The total estimated value is believed to be in excess of $70,000.

Three buildings located on Ocean Street and Fullerton Street were also allegedly graffitied. At this time, the total estimated value of the damage is between $20,000 to $30,000.

There were no reports of injuries.

A crime scene was established, and an investigation commenced under Strike Force Mylor.

During the investigation, detectives have charged a 21-year-old man for his alleged role in the incident. He remains before the court.

Following inquiries, about 9.45am today (Thursday 28 November 2024), police arrested a 19-year-old man at a residence on Queen Street, Arncliffe.

He was taken to Kogarah Police Station and charged with 21 offences, including -

- destroy or damage property (14 counts),

- enter building/land with intent commit indictable offence (three counts),

- destroy etc property in company use fire etc more than $5000,

- destroy etc property in company use fire etc less than or equal to $2000,

- behave in offensive manner in/near public place/school,

- face blackened/disguised with intent commit indictable.

He was refused bail and will appear before Sutherland Local Court today (Thursday 28 November 2024).
