Second Man Charged in Jail Affray by Criminal Groups Squad

Criminal Groups Squad detectives investigating an alleged affray at a correctional centre in Parklea have charged a second man.

Just after 9.30am on Wednesday 12 June 2024, police were called to a correctional facility at Parklea following reports of an altercation between an inmate and a visitor to the facility.

Police were notified and detectives attached to State Crime Command's Criminal Groups Squad established an investigation.

On Thursday 13 June 2024, a 31-year-old man was arrested for his involvement in the altercation and charged with affray. His matters have since been finalised at court.

Following further inquiries, about 8.45am today (Wednesday 24 July 2024), Criminal Groups Squad detectives attended a correctional centre at Silverwater and arrested a 27-year-old man.

The man was charged with affray and remanded in custody to appear before Parramatta Local Court tomorrow (Thursday 25 July 2024).

Police will allege in court the altercation was motivated by previous conflict between the men and their links to rival connections.
