Second Man Charged in Wollongong Fraud Scheme

A second man will front court, charged with being involved in an alleged large scale fraud syndicate in the state's Illawarra.

In July 2024, Strike Force Acned was established to investigate an alleged large-scale fraud syndicate in the Illawarra and Sydney regions.

Following inquiries, about 7.40am yesterday (Sunday 13 October 2024), officers attached to Wollongong Police District arrested a 42-year-old man in his car, parked on Glebe Street, Wollongong.

He was taken to Wollongong police station where he was charged with recklessly deal with proceeds of crime more than $5000 and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.

He appeared in Wollongong Local Court yesterday (Sunday 13 October 2024), where he was formally refused bail to reappear in the same court today (Monday 14 October 2024).

A 33-year-old man charged earlier this month, remains before the court.
