Homicide Squad detectives have charged a second man over the shooting death of a man in Sydney's Inner West last year.
About 6.30pm on Monday 27 June 2022, emergency services responded to reports that a man had been shot on Walker Street, Rhodes.
Upon arrival, police located a man with multiple gunshot wounds; he was taken to hospital, but he died a short time later.
He has since been formally identified as 40-year-old Yusuf Nazlioglu.
Detectives from the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad – assisted by Burwood Police Area Command – commenced Strike Force Claypinch to investigate the incident.
This investigation subsequently formed part of ongoing inquiries by Taskforce Erebus into several fatal shootings and criminal activities by organised crime networks across Sydney.
In April 2023, a 25-year-old man was charged over his alleged role and remains before the courts.
Following further extensive inquiries, strike force detectives – assisted by the Public Order and Riot Squad – arrested a 33-year-old man during a vehicle stop on Eighteenth Avenue, Austral, just before 6am today (Wednesday 14 June 2023).
Detectives later executed a search warrant at homes in Austral, Granville, and Bankstown, where they seized a number of items which will undergo further forensic examination.
The man was taken to Liverpool Police Station, where he has been charged with murder.
He has been refused bail to appear before Liverpool Local Court today.
Police will allege in court the Liverpool man was involved in the planning and coordination of the incident.
Investigations under Taskforce Erebus and Strike Force Claypinch are ongoing.
