Securing Ben Lomond National Park's Future

Tasmanian Government

Shovels have hit the ground for a new village walkway at Ben Lomond National Park.

Minister for Parks, Nick Duigan, said the four-year $2.8 million project has commenced with the first stage now underway, securing Ben Lomond a year-round destination.

"This is a key part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, designed to make the park more accessible to locals and visitors," Minister Duigan said.

"Ben Lomond has always had the potential to become a year-round holiday destination, offering everything from safe and accessible walks during the summer, and snow sports during the winter.

"We're committed to realising that potential by building infrastructure to allow both locals and visitors to access the park more safely and easily.

"The new walkway will replace the old one connecting the day shelter with the café and snow activity area, providing more access for visitors."

Subject to weather conditions, the works by local George Town contractor, CPT Engineering Pty Ltd, are expected to be completed before winter.

Other works taking place – and scheduled to be completed at the same time – are the renewal and maintenance of Jacobs Ladder.

"This is just the beginning. Towards the end of the year, we'll start work on the other stages of the project which include a new lookout and adjoining boardwalk at the top of Jacob's Ladder," Minister Duigan said.
