Securing quarry resources to help Victoria grow

Better planning for quarries will ensure that access to the gravel, rock and sand needed to help deliver new housing, schools, hospitals and infrastructure will continue well into the future.

New Strategic Extractive Resource Area (SERA) planning controls in the growth corridors of Wyndham City and South Gippsland Shire will secure long-term access to the raw materials needed to support the construction sector.

SERA planning controls will help communities to better understand where future quarries might be.

Identifying where quarries may exist in years to come will limit future issues due to homes being built close to extraction areas and operations.

New or expanding quarries will continue to require a quarry licence and planning approvals, with opportunities for community input.
