Minister for Police and Emergency Services Mick Gentleman is encouraging Canberrans to nominate our dedicated emergency services personnel for the 2022 ACT Rotary Emergency Services Community Awards (RESCA).
The awards – which for the first time include ACT Policing – recognise those personnel who epitomise the Rotary motto of "Service above Self".
"The awards also take into account a person's commitment to the community, not only in their role, but also in how actively they contribute in their own time," Minister Gentleman said.
"Emergency services personnel give so much of themselves and ask so little in return."
ACT Emergency Services Agency (ESA) Commissioner Georgeina Whelan said the awards shine a light on the incredible contribution of those who put others first.
"They are always there on the front line, protecting the community from disaster and putting the needs and lives of others above their own," Commissioner Whelan said.
ACT Policing Chief Police Officer Neil Gaughan said he is thankful that the ACT Rotary Club has included his staff and volunteers in the awards.
"While ACT Policing always works in partnership with other emergency service responders, I look forward to the ACT Rotary Club recognising police officers who constantly go above and beyond for the community.
"I am confident there will be strong nominations of officers who selflessly serve the Canberra community both on and off duty."
