The voice of the Australian oil and gas industry today said Senex's announcement of a 50 per cent expansion of its Atlas domestic gas project near Wandoan in Queensland is a boom for jobs, the local economy and domestic gas supply.
APPEA Chief Executive Andrew McConville said today's announcement is on top of two recent gas services agreements Senex has signed in recent months.
"It is simple, gas means jobs, energy and economic security," Mr McConville said.
"Senex Atlas announcement will see 100 construction jobs created and support hundreds of manufacturing roles.
"Senex will produce much-needed gas from regional Queensland for the east coast of Australia, supplying a total of 18 petajoules of gas a year – or more than five times the energy needed to run all the homes in Toowoomba.
"Senex will invest about $15 million in the community as part of the Atlas expansion, as it sources goods and services from local firms wherever possible.
"It is yet another example of how the east coast gas market is working to provide secure, reliable and clean energy for Australia."
