Sensible Reform: Ending No Grounds Evictions

Homelessness NSW

Dominique Rowe, CEO Homelessness NSW:

"Stopping no-grounds evictions is a sensible move that will help prevent tenants who have done nothing wrong from being at risk of suddenly losing their housing and facing homelessness.

"With 68,400 people accessing specialist homelessness services each year, we need further reforms and investment to fix the broken housing market.

"The government must better regulate short-stay tourist rentals by matching Victoria's 7.5 per cent levy and imposing region-specific caps on the number of days they can be rented.

"It must also invest $1billion a year for the next 10 years to double the proportion of social homes to take pressure off rents and house the increasing number of people who cannot afford the soaring rental market."
