Two people have been seriously injured after a crash south of Gundagai today, NSW Police say.
About 5.15am today, emergency services were called to the Yellow Creek rest area on the Hume Highway, Tumblong, about 15km south of Gundagai, after reports of a crash.
Police have been told a silver Toyota Prado was travelling north on the Hume Highway when it hit a silver Toyota Tarago, which was stopped at the rest area.
The four occupants of the Toyota Tarago, a man, woman, and two children, were taken to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital.
The man and woman were airlifted to St George Hospital in a critical condition, whilst the children remain at Wagga Wagga in a stable condition.
The female driver of the Toyota Prado was taken to Gundagai Hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests before being transferred to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital in a stable condition.
Two children in the Prado were uninjured.
There ages are not yet known.
Officers from Cootamundra Local Area Command established a crime scene and with the assistance of the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit the circumstances surrounding the crash will be investigated.
One northbound lane of the Hume Highway remains closed.
Police are appealing to any witnesses to come forward and contact police via Crime Stoppers.
