A man was airlifted to hospital after a car and truck collided on the Newell Highway, near Parkes, yesterday.
About 3.15pm (Tuesday 30 July 2019), a Nissan Patrol 4WD, with caravan in tow, was driving south on the Newell Highway at Alectown, just north of Parkes, when it collided with a Mack prime mover.
The 72-year-old driver of the car was trapped in the vehicle and the Newell Highway was closed in both directions.
Emergency services attended and removed the driver before he was airlifted to Orange Base Hospital in a serious but stable condition. He sustained multiple injuries including severed toes and suspected spinal injuries.
The 54-year-old driver of the truck was breath tested by police at the scene. He returned a negative result.
Central West Police District detectives attended the scene and both the car and truck have been towed for mechanical examination.
