A 82-year-old man, 38-year-old woman and three girls aged 11, 9 and 7, were all transported to the Launceston General Hospital after a two vehicle crash at the intersection of Oaks Road and the off-ramp from the Bass Highway yesterday.
At approximately 3:45pm, police were diverting traffic from the Bass Highway onto Oaks Road at Carrick, due to another crash which had occurred on the Bass Highway near Hagley.
At this time, police and emergency services were notified of a two-vehicle crash where a white Mitsubishi Triton had collided with a yellow Mitsubishi Lancer at the intersection of Oaks Road and the off-ramp to the Bass Highway.
A 82-year-old man from Westbury, who was the sole occupant of the yellow Mitsubishi Lancer, was required to be freed from the vehicle by Tasmania Fire Service personnel before being transported to the Launceston General Hospital in a serious condition.
The 38-year-old woman and three girls aged 11, 9 and 7 were all transported to the Launceston General Hospital with minor injuries.
Investigations into the crash are continuing, witness to the crash or those who have dash camera footage of the incident are asked to contact Longford Police on 131 444.
