In early May, more than 50 serving and veteran members of the ADF attended a ceremony at Marist College in Canberra to commemorate fallen Defence personnel.
The service was supported by members of Australia's Federation Guard.
Guest speaker Major General Gavin Duncan spoke of the sacrifice of young Australians who have laid down their lives in service of the nation, some of whom are named on the honour roll at Marist College.
"On days like this we reflect on the stories of courage, service and sacrifice that stretch from Gallipoli through to today," Major General Duncan said.
"Their sacrifice allows us to build the nation we are today and their service protects the nation we are building for tomorrow.
"While your school values of faith, love, justice, compassion and hospitality are expressed differently than the Defence values, they are no less relevant when considering the sacrifice from past Australians and students from your school."
There has long been a connection between the school and the ADF, with a number of students attending the Australian Defence Force Academy. Honour boards hang on the walls within the school listing the names of school alumni who have served the nation since WW1.
To further develop their learning and recognition of Australian sacrifice, 38 students have been selected to travel to Europe in September and October to tour significant historical sites throughout Germany, Belgium and France. It will provide the boys with context for their study and reading and allow them to immerse themselves first-hand in the places where the Anzac legend was forged in Australian history.
The Director of ADF Engagement and Entry, Colonel Kimberlea Juchniewicz, presented the students with a travel backpack and water bottle for their tour.
