Cricket Victoria is pleased to announce the induction of seven new Life Members during Day 2 of the NRMA Insurance Boxing Day Test at the MCG.
The newest Life Members are Clea Smith, David Hussey, Paul Jackson, Sarah Elliott, Brad Hodge, Cameron White and Melanie Jones OAM.
Clea Smith represented Australia in all three formats of the game in an international career that spanned more than a decade. She played one Test, 48 One-Day Internationals and 13 T20 Internationals in the green and gold. Clea played 117 Women's National Cricket League matches in the navy blue for Victoria before ending her playing career in 2012. Clea went on to work in a GM position for the Australian Cricketers Association and is a current Director on Cricket Australia's Board.
David Hussey made his debut for Victoria in 2001 and went on to score 7,668 runs in 109 matches wearing the Baggy Blue. David played 108 times for Australia across One-Day International and T20 International cricket. A founding member of the Melbourne Stars, David went on to captain the club. He represented Nottinghamshire in English county cricket for 9 years and is a former Director on the Board of Cricket Victoria. Hussey is now continuing to contribute his experience and knowledge as the Head of Male Cricket based at the CitiPower Centre.
Paul Jackson represented Victoria from 1986 to 1992, taking 88 wickets in 34 First Class matches. After retiring, Paul was elected to the Board of Cricket Victoria in 2007 where served until stepping down in 2020. During his tenure, Jackson oversaw a range of key moments for the game including the introduction of the Big Bash League. He was also a Director to the Board of the Melbourne Renegades.
Sarah Elliott represented Australia in every format of the game between 2005 and 2014. Sarah debuted for Victoria in 2000-2001 summer and went on to play 143 WNCL matches for Victoria and was part of Australia's T20 World Cup win in 2010. Sarah captained the Melbourne Renegades in the inaugural season of the WBBL and in the 2013 Ashes series, Sarah notably became the first mother to tour as a member of the Australian women's team.
Brad Hodge debuted in 1994 and is Victoria's all time top leading run scorer in First Class cricket. Brad scored 11,350 runs for Victoria in 147 matches, including 33 centuries. Brad played six Tests for Australia and represented Australia in every format and played for the Melbourne Stars and Melbourne Renegades in the BBL where he averaged 42. He represented Kolkata and Rajasthan scoring more than 1,000 runs in the IPL.
Cameron White was Victoria's youngest-ever captain in 152 years when was appointed to the role ahead of the 2003-04 season at the age of 20. Cameron went to score more than 7,500 runs in 18 years with Victoria, leaving him fifth in the highest First Class run scorers for his state. Cameron played for Australia in every format and captained his country in T20 Internationals. Cameron played for the Melbourne Stars and Melbourne Renegades - winning the BBL title with the Renegades in 2019. He is currently Head Coach of the Renegades in the BBL.
Mel Jones made her debut for Victoria in the 1996-97 summer and went on to play 122 WNCL matches over the following 13 years. Mel played Test and One Day International cricket for Australia after making her debut in 1997. Mel is a former Director on the Board of Cricket Australia and is now a highly sought-after TV commentator in global cricket.
