A seventh person has been charged following the alleged fatal stabbing of a man in Newcastle late last year.
About 2.40am on Sunday 17 November 2024, emergency services were called to Beaumont Street, Hamilton, and found a 22-year-old man suffering multiple stab wounds. He died in hospital a short time later.
Officers attached to Newcastle City Police District established a crime scene and commenced an investigation under Strike Force Mannum, with the assistance of the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad.
During the investigation, three men – aged 27, 35 and 43 – and a 33-year-old woman, were each charged with murder.
A fifth person, a 28-year-old woman, was charged with accessory after the fact to murder, and conceal serious indictable offence of other.
A sixth person, a 39-year-old woman, was charged with murder – principal in the second degree.
All six remain before the courts.
On Monday 10 March 2025, a 33-year-old man appeared at Brisbane Magistrates Court where Newcastle Detectives applied for – and were granted – his extradition.
The same day, the man was taken to Tweed Heads Police Station where outstanding warrants were executed.
There he was charged with murder, armed with intent commit indictable offence, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company of others.
He was refused bail to appear before Tweed Heads Local Court yesterday (Tuesday 11 March 2025), where he was formally refused bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Tuesday 6 May 2025.
