The NSW State Emergency Service (SES) is urging residents in the North Coast, Coffs Coast and Northern Rivers to prepare for severe storms, as the risk of heavy rain, flash flooding and hail increases throughout this evening.
NSW SES North Eastern Zone Deputy Zone Commander, Superintendent Scott McLennan, said the chance of severe storms, including damaging wind gusts, is likely.
"Throughout the early parts of this evening we may see heavy rain of up to 100mms or more near Grafton, Coffs Harbour and other parts of the north coast," Superintendent McLennan said.
"The catchments in these areas are already very wet, so the risk of flash flooding occurring very quickly is likely. Any rough sleepers near the Coffs Creek are urged to move to higher ground before the weather sets in."
The NSW SES has flood rescue experts on standby to assist if needed.
"While NSW SES is well-prepared to assist the community, we are urging residents to make smart decisions and take preventative action, rather than risking themselves and our volunteers," Superintendent McLennan said.
"We're asking residents to monitor conditions and have the Hazards Near Me App set up to get real-time warnings for storms and floods."
