Sex Crime Squad detectives are appealing for information following the alleged sexual assault of an elderly woman in Merrylands yesterday.
About 5.40pm (Tuesday 15 April 2025), emergency services were called to a home in Merrylands following reports of a sexual assault.
Officers attached to Cumberland Police Area Command were told an 83-year-old woman had met an unknown man in the vicinity of Charles Mance Reserve in Merrylands at about 12.30pm the same day, who offered to help carry her shopping trolly home.
Once at the woman's home, the man forced entry inside and sexually assaulted the woman before cleaning and then fleeing the scene with her house keys.
The woman was taken to hospital for assessment as local police established a crime scene and commenced initial inquiries.
The matter was then referred to State Crime Command's Sex Crimes Squad under Strike Force Bena.
As inquiries continue, detectives have released an image of a man who may be able to assist with inquiries.
The man is described as being of fair skin, with dark hair and a slight beard. He was wearing a black shirt with white panels, dark blue pants, and white shoes.
