Mildura Arts Centre (MAC) is set to welcome back the nationally renowned shake & stir theatre company, which will perform its latest classic fiction adaptation, Jane Eyre, later this month.
Described as "a blazing success" and "another shake & stir production destined for hit status", Jane Eyre will be performed live at MAC on Saturday 23 July.
shake & stir is one of the largest privately-owned and operated theatre companies in Australia, and renowned for its innovative stage adaptations of classic fiction as well as its critically-acclaimed high-quality productions.
Councillor for Arts, Culture and Heritage Helen Healy said Sunraysia audiences will be no stranger to shake & stir's innovative productions following performances of Animal Farm, Dracula, and children's show Roald Dahl's Revolting Rhymes & Dirty Beast at MAC in recent years.
The subject of this month's performance – Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre – has been described as one of the most influential books of the 19th Century, and an iconic example of English Literature
"There's always a sense of excitement and anticipation ahead of any new shake & stir theatre production as you just never know how they'll interpret and adapt classic works of fiction that have been portrayed the same way, in some cases, for hundreds of years," Cr Healy said.
"And as a huge Bronte fan, I can't wait to see how shake & stir will interpret this much-loved book, which I've read multiple times."
The theatre company's stunning new production features original music written by Aria Award-winning artist Sarah McLeod and is one of the bigger productions in what is already a packed program of shows and exhibitions at MAC this month.
It's a show that has already attracted rave reviews including:
"shake & stir's Jane Eyre is a blazing success. It will make you think, it will make you feel and it will give you hope" – Broadway World.
"shake & stir's Jane Eyre – the hottest ticket in town! Top marks to Director Michael Futcher. The cast received rapturous ovation and deserved it." - Absolute Theatre.
This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australian Council for the Arts, its arts funding and advisory body.
