The Global Child Health and Sustainable Development Goals research group recently hosted a delegation of prominent guests from Shanghai, China, to exchange insights on health economics and childcare systems. Their visit aimed to deepen the understanding of the Swedish healthcare system, particularly in the context of children's health.
The visit was initiated by Mrs. Lu Chuyun, Deputy Director General of Shanghai Hospital Development Center. Her delegation included Dr. Sun Kun, President of Xinhua Hospital; Dr. Zou Haidong, Vice President of Shanghai General Hospital; and Mr. Zhang Haibin, Chief Accountant of Shanghai Hospital Development Center. They were welcomed by Professor and research group leader Tobias Alfvén, who provided an overview of Karolinska Institutet, the Department of Global Public Health, and the research group's vision and projects.
During the meeting, PhD student and obstetrician Toàn Nguyen presented the NeoSpirit Project , a collaborative research initiative between Karolinska Institutet and Phu San Hospital in Hanoi, Vietnam. Nguyen detailed the project's progress since its inception in 2018, highlighting significant milestones and ongoing efforts.
The Shanghai delegation shared their expertise in children's health, focusing on cardiovascular disease treatment and myopia prevention. Associate Professor Birger Forsberg introduced the visitors to health economics and public health work in Region Stockholm, sparking discussions on the unique challenges and commonalities between the two regions Shanghai and Stockholm.
The visit underscored the importance of international collaboration in addressing global health issues and fostering mutual learning between healthcare systems.
