October is fast-approaching and with it Wodonga's council elections.
The council's Chief Executive Officer Matthew Hyde is encouraging civic-minded community members to consider standing for council, noting the role they could hold in helping shape Wodonga's future.
"Becoming a councillor presents an opportunity to help chart a course for the future, working with fellow community members to influence the council's priorities and actions.
"Given the diverse makeup of our community, we encourage individuals from all walks of life to step forward as candidates, regardless of their cultural background, occupation or gender - all are welcome to get involved."
Wodonga's council elections come after the Victorian Electoral Commission's (VEC) announcement of a ward structure that will see the city divided into seven wards, each represented by a councillor.
Per the requirements set out in the Local Government Act 2020, candidates will have to undertake mandatory candidate training to consider standing for council which will help candidates understand what is involved in holding the position.
The Municipal Association of Victoria will be holding a community and candidate information session on Monday, July 22 from 6pm.
