Calling all people who walk, roll and ride.
Council has reviewed its Bike Plan and the Pedestrian Access and Mobility Plan which look at how people walk, cycle and move around the Byron Shire.
The plans were developed in 2018 after extensive consultation with the community, and six years later, it's time to check in, review the plans, priorities and achievements.
Shelley Currie, Council's Road Safety Officer, said one change is that the two plans are being merged into a new document called the Active Transport Plan.
"We are doing this because the aims, objectives and outcomes of these plans are quite similar, so it makes sense to consolidate them," Ms Currie said.
The Active Transport Plan will aim to:
- Increase active travel.
- Improve the connectivity of paths and cycleways in the Shire.
- Design and deliver quality infrastructure that maximises safety and accessibility.
- Provide supporting facilities that make it more attractive to walk, roll, ride.
- Promote the use of bicycles for short trips.
A draft Active Transport Plan is now on public exhibition and members of the public are invited to read it and provide feedback.
