Sharing Bay Trail Safely This Summer

The Bay Trail is a shared use path for cyclists and pedestrians (unless signed otherwise). It follows the coastline of Port Phillip Bay through Melbourne's southeastern suburbs, offering a scenic route.

With approximately 15,000 cyclists and walkers using the trail each month, it's crucial to share the path safely.

Whether you're enjoying a leisurely walk or a brisk bike ride, let's keep the pace safe for everyone.

Cyclists

Please cycle carefully and ride slowly around pedestrians, using your bell to alert others when passing. Please also note that on-road cyclists must follow Victoria Road Rules.

Pedestrians

Be aware of your surroundings, especially when listening to music or using mobile devices. Stay to the lefthand side of the path to allow cyclists safe passage. Look both ways before you step out, particularly when joining the trail from the foreshore.

What's Council doing?

Over the summer, we will be delivering a series of improvement works along the Bay Trail.
