- The Guardian University Guide 2025 ranked the University of Sheffield within the top 10 in the UK for 12 subject areas including: construction, surveying and planning; civil engineering; nursing; journalism; architecture and zoology
- The University of Sheffield rose one place from last year to be ranked 20th best University in the UK out of 122 institutions
The University of Sheffield has been ranked among the top in the UK within The Guardian University Guide 2025.
Rising from 21st place the previous year, the University ranked 20th overall out of 122 institutions.
The annual league table also ranked the University in the top 10 for 12 subject areas: construction, surveying and planning (1st); aerospace engineering (3rd); architecture (4th); computer science and information systems (9th); civil engineering (5th), electrical and electronic engineering (6th); general engineering (5th); general nursing (7th); international relations (10th); journalism (5th), mechanical engineering (4th) and zoology (7th).
The guide provides prospective students and their families with information to make an informed choice about their higher education destination, evaluating everything from satisfaction with teaching quality and class size, through to the per cent of graduates who find graduate-level jobs, or are in further study at professional or higher education level, within 15 months of graduation.

In the same week, the University of Sheffield was also ranked as the top university in the Russell Group for student experience and support in the Daily Mail University Guide.
The league table, which ranks universities on performance measures that include the proportion of graduates in highly-skilled jobs and the salaries they earn, degree outcomes,and research quality, placed Sheffield within the top 10 universities in the UK overall, as well as top in the North of England for the second successive year.
Earlier this summer, the University of Sheffield was voted top of the Russell Group for the second year in a row in the National Student Survey (NSS). The annual survey, in which students give their feedback on their university experience, also rated Sheffield's Students' Union as the best SU among UK universities.
This followed the University of Sheffield being voted University of the Year, Best Students' Union and Best Student Life at the Whatuni Student Choice Awards (WUSCAs) 2024 in April. The awards, which are the largest annual university awards in the UK voted for exclusively by students, also saw the University shortlisted in the Facilities, Student Support and International categories.
