Shelford Hunt: 2013 Lorrin Whitehead Case Reopened

Police are today searching an area near Shelford as part of the investigation into the 2013 disappearance of Lorrin Whitehead.

Detectives from Moorabool Crime Investigation Unit (CIU) along with members of the SES will be searching an area of bushland.

This search is based on intelligence that Lorrin's remains may potentially be located in this area.

The Bannockburn woman was last spotted leaving her home at 4.40pm on Friday, 8 February 2013.

Lorrin was then seen on CCTV at a local supermarket in Bannockburn just after 4.50pm that afternoon purchasing a bottle of water, a card and a pen.

Around the same time as her supermarket visit, a witness reported seeing Lorrin enter the driver's seat of a red 4WD in Bannockburn's CBD.

This was the last confirmed time she was seen by anyone.

A second witness reported seeing a red 4WD vehicle parked on the nature strip of Lorrin's property over the weekend of her disappearance.

At the time of her disappearance, Lorrin did not own a red 4WD.

Lorrin's disappearance was extremely out of character and her bank accounts have remained untouched since she went missing.

Her work phone was also found at her home, which raised further concerns.

Over the past year, detectives from Moorabool CIU have spoken to a number of people who knew Lorrin and they are continuing to explore all possibilities in relation to Lorrin's disappearance.

Detectives are today re-releasing images of Lorrin in the hope they will prompt anyone with knowledge of her whereabouts to come forward.

This includes a digital image which shows how Lorrin may look today.

Lorrin is described as 170 cm tall, with a medium build, brown eyes, and brown hair, and she was wearing black pants and a light-coloured shirt with a collar when she was last seen.

Lorrin also has a medical condition and it is believed that she left without her medication.

Anyone with information regarding Lorrin's disappearance is urged contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au

Quotes attributable to Detective Sergeant Steve Murphy, Moorabool Crime Investigation Unit:

"Since 2013, Lorrin's disappearance has remained a mystery to her family, friends, police and the broader Bannockburn community.

"There are a number of aspects to her disappearance that remain extremely concerning for investigators.

"There have been no confirmed sightings of Lorrin since 2013 and her bank accounts have remained untouched. Most people we have spoken to has also agreed that her disappearance is extremely out of character.

"Over the past year, police have spoken to a number of people who knew Lorrin in the hopes it might provide new avenues of enquiry, even over a decade on from her disappearance.

"This is a small community and potentially someone who never felt ready to speak to police might now be in a position to come forward.

"Last year we also appealed for anyone with information about the red 4WD that was seen in the vicinity of Lorrin's property to come forward, and we are continuing to make that appeal.

"The area for today's search is not one that people will regularly walk through, so we're hopeful there may be some sign of Lorrin here even after all these years.

"I can only begin to imagine how difficult the past 12 years have been for Lorrin's family and loved ones not having any answers about why or how she disappeared.

"Investigators remain committed to getting those answers and hopefully today's search can assist."
