Shining Light On Excellence In Health Care

Nominations are now open for the 2024 WA Health Excellence Awards, which recognise healthcare professionals, teams, and projects across the WA health system.

Community members are encouraged to nominate a standout frontline healthcare worker for the 7News Health Heroes category.

This award was introduced in 2023 and highlights the extraordinary care delivered by doctors, nurses and midwives, allied health professionals, volunteers, ward clerks and other WA Health staff.

The inaugural recipient of the 7News Health Heroes award, Allan Jones, said receiving the award was the cherry on top of an already very rewarding career.

"Although the real heroes are the parents and kids I see every day, receiving the Health Hero award last year is a career memory I will look back on with great fondness," Mr Jones said.

This is one of 13 award categories which will highlight the excellence in health care across the WA health system. Other awards include:

  • Director General's award
  • Minister for Health's award
  • Primary health
  • Preventive health
  • Person-centred care
  • Mental health
  • Safety and quality
  • Workplace wellbeing and culture
  • Research and innovation
  • Sustainability
  • Aboriginal health
  • Rural and remote healthcare.

Department of Health Director General, Dr Shirley Bowen, said the awards were a good opportunity to shine a spotlight on our achievements.

"These awards recognise both individual and team achievements, and inspire continued improvement across the entire health system," Dr Bowen said.

"I look forward to celebrate those who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to improving health outcomes for all Western Australians."

Entries close Friday 26 July and finalists will be announced in October.
