Recent testing for per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in raw and drinking water has confirmed that the Shoalhaven community continues to enjoy safe and reliable potable (drinking) water.
In July this year, Shoalhaven Water undertook testing of our main sources of water for PFAS, in the Shoalhaven River (Bamarang Dam), Porters Creek Dam and Kangaroo Valley (Bendeela Pondage), revealing 'nil detectable' PFAS at all locations.
Similarly, tap water at Nowra, Milton and Kangaroo Valley all produced 'nil detectable' results for PFAS.
Shoalhaven Water Executive Manager Rob Horner said residents and visitors can have every confidence in the quality of the region's drinking water.
"Our potable water supply has been tested with analysis undertaken at independent certified laboratories in line with the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines," Mr Horner said.
"We take the risk of PFAS contamination extremely seriously which is why we're committed to continued testing and reporting results back to the community," he said.
"Drinking water in the Shoalhaven is also considered amongst the best tasting in NSW and the ACT, having taken out the top accolade in 2019 and 2022. We are very lucky to have very secure and pristine water sources in the Shoalhaven."
