Shoppers Urged To Stay Under Parking Time Limits

Orange Council

Orange shoppers who use one of the city's private shopping centre car parks are being urged to make sure they stay under the time limits for parking.

The warning follows a request from the operators of the Orange City Shopping Centre for Council parking officers to start patrols in the centre's car park.

The Council staff already conduct parking patrols in in a number privately-owned car parks including the Summer Centre, Aldi, K-Mart and Central car parks within the city, as well as Council-owned sites.

Parking staff will begin patrols later this week.

PARKING: Council parking officers will begin patrols in the City Centre Car Park.

The City of Orange Traffic Committee chair Cr Tony Mileto has welcomed the new agreement.

"It makes sense and could overcome any potential confusion if shoppers know that patrols are happening wherever they choose to park," Cr Tony Mileto said.

"The Orange City Centre parking station, with its entrance off Kite Street was one of the few that Council didn't patrol. By signing an agreement to have Council officers make patrols there, the centre operators are saying they want to see more turnover, and to see the

available parking spaces shared more between the shoppers who want to park there."

"The owners of the car parks set the time-limits and Council parking offices enforce the rules."

"From time to time there's criticism of parking fines, but as fines go, this is one of the easiest to avoid. The time-limits are clearly marked. Simply make sure you leave before the time is up."

"For people who willing to walk there are still many streets and parking lots around the CBD where there are no parking time limits."

The City Centre car park has an 3-hour time limit for parking.
