Armed Crime Squad detectives are investigating a home invasion in Templestowe Lower early this morning.
Several men forced their way into a Linton Avenue home and assaulted a male occupant about 12.45am.
One of the offenders fired several shots in the house however no one was struck.
The offenders then fled the scene and no arrests have been made at this stage.
The male victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening head injuries.
A woman and two children inside the home at the time of the incident were not physically injured.
At this early stage in the investigation, detectives are still determining the motive however believe the incident was targeted.
