Council was made aware of the hole in the grassed verge adjacent to the footpath on The Terrace at Windsor on Sunday 2 June 2024 at 1.45pm.
In the interests of public safety, an exclusion zone was established to keep pedestrians clear of the area until a more detailed investigation could occur first thing Monday morning.
Urgent CCTV was undertaken at 9am this morning which identified a collapse of the bricked stormwater pipe.
Pedestrian access has been closed and as the collapse encroaches on the road pavement it was decided to prohibit parking on The Terrace and to restrict traffic to one way between Fitzgerald and Kable Streets. To minimise impact to bus routes, traffic will be restricted to Northbound only.
The changed traffic conditions cannot be fully implemented until early tomorrow morning due to cars already parked in the vicinity. Temporary no stopping signage has been installed to allow the implementation of traffic management, however this will not be enforced until these parked cars have moved on.
Stormwater engineers have attended site and will liaise with Council's Senior Heritage Officer to determine the methodology for remediation. Transport Operations will continue to monitor site safety until repairs can be undertaken.
We will continue to provide updates for the information of the community.
