Six new members were elected to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Board of Trustees earlier this month. The new Board members were elected on Monday, February 3, 2020 with terms that run through the Board's annual meeting in 2023.
Louise Svanberg was previously elected at the October Board meeting and her term expires at the annual meeting in 2022.
The new members are:
Tim Cohen, of Lexington, MA, is co-head of Fidelity Investments' Equity Division. As co-head, he helps oversee all of Fidelity's Equity portfolio managers, research analysts and trading teams. Fidelity Investments is a leading provider of investment management, retirement planning, portfolio guidance, brokerage, benefits outsourcing, and other financial products and services to more than 26 million individuals, institutions, and financial intermediaries.
Prior to assuming this role, Cohen had been a part of the Equity Division Senior Management team since 2013. Most recently, Cohen served as head of Global Equity Research, responsible for managing Fidelity's research efforts and acted as chief investment officer for Fidelity's Select Funds.
Previously, he served as chief investment officer for Fidelity's international and emerging markets equity funds and as managing director of research for the High Income division.
Prior to these management roles, Cohen managed various diversified equity portfolios, including Fidelity Export and Multinational Fund, Fidelity Advisor Large Cap Fund, Fidelity Advisor Diversified Stock Fund, and Fidelity Growth & Income Fund. Cohen also managed various sector portfolios, including Select Insurance Portfolio and various telecommunications and utilities Select funds. He has been in the financial industry since joining Fidelity as a research analyst in 1996.
Cohen earned his BS degree in business administration from the University of Vermont and his MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Additionally, he serves on the Board of Advisors for the School of Business Administration at the University of Vermont and the Board of Trustees for the Buckingham Browne & Nichols School in Cambridge, MA.
Nancy Lotane, of Concord, MA, is a Managing Director and Chief Human Resources Officer at Bain Capital, one of the world's leading private investment firms. Lotane joined Bain Capital in 2007. In her role, Lotane leads a team of human resources professionals responsible for recruiting, performance management, leadership and development, training, compensation, culture, and diversity and inclusion for the more than 1,000 employees working for Bain Capital globally. In addition, Lotane serves as the Chief Operating Officer for Bain Capital Private Equity globally.
Prior to joining Bain Capital, Lotane worked as Chief Marketing and Development Officer and Head of North American Operations for Mercer Management Consulting, now Oliver Wyman. In that role, Lotane was also responsible for Learning, Knowledge Management and intellectual capital development.
Prior to that, Lotane was a consulting partner at Mercer and Corporate Decisions, Inc., focused on retail and consumer products. She also worked as a consultant at Braxton Associates earlier in her career.
Lotane received an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth and a BA from Tufts University. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Center for Private Equity and Entrepreneurship at the Tuck School of Business and on the Board of Trustees at Lawrence Academy in Groton, MA.
Fatima Penrose, of Boston, MA, is Senior Managing Director and Director of Human Resources at Wellington Management. Penrose oversees the culture and well-being of Wellington's 2,700 employees and 180 partners globally across 14 offices. She is a key member of the CEO Leadership Team and is responsible for execution of innovative strategies and practices that attract, retain, and develop the firm's client-centric and investment-led workforce.
She leads and advises a strong team of human resource leaders with deep institutional knowledge who are key strategy partners to Wellington's business heads. On a daily basis, she can be found providing similar consultative guidance to Wellington's senior leadership team on human capital initiatives and pushing the envelope to advocate for next-gen work policies and programs.
Prior to joining Wellington in 2006, Penrose worked at Fidelity Investments for 10 years. She received her MBA from Northwestern University (Kellogg) and her BA in international relations from Mount Holyoke College.
Louise Svanberg, of Brookline, MA and Stockholm, Sweden, is the former Chair of EF Education First, the world's largest private educational company specializing in language training, educational travel, academic degree programs, and cultural exchange. She joined the company in 1985 and became CEO in 2002. She served as Chair from 2008 to 2010.
In 2004, Svanberg was named the Most Powerful Swedish Business Woman by the economics magazine Veckans Affärer. She also ranked No. 35 on Fortune Magazine's list of the 50 Most Powerful Women in Business in 2005. In 2006, she was awarded the Franklin D. Roosevelt Humanitarian Award for her work with the March of Dimes. In 2008, she was awarded the European Union Business Women Award as one of the ten most powerful business women in Europe.
She serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Essity, a member of the Board of Directors of CERAS Health, a Director on the MPM Biotech Advisory Board, and an advisor to the Cue Ball Capital Group.
Svanberg received a MS in Economics from the University of Stockholm. As an undergraduate, Louise earned degrees in business and language from the University of Stockholm and studied French at the University of Sorbonne in Paris.
Michael G. Trotsky, CFA, of Belmont, MA, is the Executive Director and Chief Investment Officer of the Massachusetts Pension Reserves Investment Management ("PRIM") Board, the entity responsible for investing the $80 billion Massachusetts pension fund, which contains the assets of the Massachusetts Teachers' and State Employees' Retirement Systems as well as the assets of approximately 100 participating municipal and county retirement systems.
Trotsky's work at PRIM was preceded by a 25-year career in the private sector, most recently as senior vice president and portfolio manager at PAR Capital Management, a Boston-based absolute return strategy fund. Previously, he was a senior analyst at Greenberg-Summit Partners in Boston and also served as a principal and senior vice president at Independence Investment Associates (a John Hancock subsidiary), also in Boston. Trotsky began his professional career in 1985 as an engineer at Intel Corporation in California.
Trotsky serves as Chair of the CFA Society Boston and is a member of the Boston Economics Club. Trotsky previously served as a member of the CFA Institute Board of Governors and as Chair of the CFA Institute's Asset Manager Code of Professional Conduct Advisory Committee. He also served as Chair of the CFA Institute's Investment Committee.
Trotsky received a BS in electrical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Jodi Walker, of Belmont, MA, practiced as an Assistant District Attorney ("ADA") in Middlesex County for over 12 years, prosecuting a variety of crimes in district and superior courts, advocating for victims, and working with schools and police on preventive justice. She served as the Legal Counsel to District Attorney Gerry Leone as well as Special Counsel and as a Regional District Court Supervisor. Jodi provided strategic legal advice to the office to help establish Middlesex County legal policy, supervised other ADAs, and led training for both ADAs and police officers on complex legal issues and practice. Prior to her time as an ADA, Jodi worked as a corporate litigator in the Boston office of Goodwin Procter where she focused on matters involving product liability and white collar defense.
Walker received a BA in English and Psychology, summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, from Dartmouth College and a JD, magna cum laude, from New York University School of Law. She has also served on the Development Committee at Belmont Day School and is actively involved in development at Beaver Country Day School. In addition, she currently serves on the Development Committee at New Roads Catholic Community.
