Northern Territory Police are investigating the discovery of skeletal remains which were discovered near Lee Point Beach on Wednesday afternoon.
Detective Acting Superintendent Karl Day said the bones were discovered by a bushwalker around lunchtime on Wednesday 28September, and police were notified soon after.
On arrival police established a crime scene and specialists were called in.
From Wednesday through until Friday lunchtime the scene has been painstakingly processed with the use of medical experts, including a forensic pathologist.
To date a large number of bones, including a skull, have been recovered.
Further analysis will be undertaken by forensic specialists and until that time we cannot expand further.
