As the weather warms and the Melbourne Cup weekend approaches, Campaspe Shire will soon be abuzz with campers ready to relax on our rivers and explore our region.
Director Sustainability Michael Sharp said Council would be installing additional waste skip bins at Echuca East Boat Ramp, Victoria Park, Torrumbarry Roadhouse and Gunbower Recreation Reserve from 1-6 November to cope with campers' waste.
"Each year we prepare for busy times by placing skip bins in high activity areas for, traditionally, the campers in our area.
"While we can't wait to welcome all visitors to our area, the rubbish that can be left behind is unwelcome."
Mr Sharp said the skips were only to be used for campers' waste, not for residential waste.
"The skips will be closely monitored for any misuse. Our contractors will be emptying these bins regularly; however, if a skip bin is full, we ask campers not to place rubbish on the ground next to the bin where it can be a danger, particularly to children, but instead to take their rubbish to a Resource Recovery Centre where camping waste will be accepted free of charge."
Mr Sharp said Victoria's Container Deposit Scheme (CDS) was an added incentive to take camping waste offsite.
"Campers will be rewarded with a 10-cent refund for every eligible can, carton and bottle they return."
Locals and visitors can also access Council's Resource Recovery Centres to dispose of various waste. Resource Recovery Centre locations and opening hours can be found on Council's website by clicking here.
