Dr. Phyllis Zee, chief of sleep medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, will be the keynote speaker of the SLEEP 2023 plenary session that opens the scientific part of the conference. Her lecture, "Bridging Circadian and Sleep Science to Enhance Healthspan," begins at 8:15 a.m. (E.T.) Monday, June 5.
The lecture will highlight evidence that sleep and circadian rhythms are inseparable in real life, and how alterations in circadian rhythms affect sleep. Zee also will discuss how disruption of circadian rhythms and sleep increase the risk for cardiometabolic and neurologic disorders. In addition, Zee says, the future of both sleep and circadian medicine relies on the integration of circadian rhythms at all levels of research and clinical practice to maintain a long healthspan, the length of time a person is in good health.
