Lake Broadwater is home to the only freshwater lake on the Darling Downs and the campground is fast becoming a must-visit destination for outdoor enthusiasts, families, and those seeking respite from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
The magic of Lake Broadwater is not only in its beauty, but in the dedication of local caretakers Megan and Tim Walker, who, along with their children, work tirelessly to keep the campground in pristine condition.
The couple have been caretakers at Lake Broadwater since February 2023 and during this period have become the heartbeat of this special place.
As the sun rises over the calm waters, a pastel sky paints a perfect backdrop for the Walker family, who maintain the campground's natural charm.
Their commitment is reflected in every detail - well-kept campsites, clean amenities, and the welcoming atmosphere that greets every visitor.
"We love the role as caretakers, it's a great way to work outside," caretaker Megan Walker said.
The lush green grassy expanses become the perfect spot to take in the night sky and the Walker families two young boys Nate and Colt have worked hard collecting kindling for guests to use the firepits.
The family's daily routine involves setting up the campground for visitors, keeping the BBQs spotless and holding special events for the local community.
"We have hosted many community events including paint and sips classes, sunrise yoga and even weddings, there always seems to be something happening here," she said.
The Carols by the Lake event in December last year raised $1300 for Wildlife Dalby. Raffle tickets were sold, and prizes were sourced by countless Western Downs businesses fostering a spirit of community.
Western Downs Regional Council have recently revamped the facilities at Lake Broadwater and Wilga Bush campgrounds encouraging more people to head outdoors and explore the region.
The crackle of a fire pit accompanied by the laughter of friends and family fills the air, as marshmallows are roasted, and stories are shared. The warmth of the fire contrasts beautifully with the cool, crisp night air, providing a perfect end to a day at Lake Broadwater.
Spokesperson for Recreational Spaces and Cemeteries Councillor Kaye Maguire said Lake Broadwater Campground is more than just a place to camp.
"It's a vibrant hub for the Western Downs community, offering a wide range of activities designed to connect people with nature and each other," Cr Maguire said.
"Council is proud to invest in our nature reserves and open spaces, like our beautiful Lake Broadwater, to attract families and visitors to Dalby, and foster pride in our natural assets and environment.
"The re-development of Lake Broadwater has completely transformed the camping experience with new fire-pits, amenities and a camp kitchen."
