Small Chip For Big Peace Of Mind

Rockhampton Regional Council is encouraging pet owners to take the lead this weekend and head to Duthie Park for the next Microchip your Mate event.

Planning and Regulation Councillor Grant Mathers said this family-friendly event offers discounted microchipping for both dogs and cats, at just $10.

"We are proud to once again offer this service to our community and help pet owners protect their animals and ensure their safe return if they ever become lost," Cr Mathers said.

"It's a great opportunity for those who haven't yet microchipped their pets to do so.

"Microchipping is a simple, yet essential step in responsible pet ownership and gives owners peace of mind knowing that their beloved pets have a permanent form of identification."

Councillor Mathers said pet owners can bring their dogs to the event, with vouchers available for cats and young pups.

"While this is a dog on lead event only, residents can still take advantage by purchasing vouchers for their cats, kittens, or young pups for use at the participating veterinary clinic," Cr Mathers said.

"The vouchers can be used within a month, which offers a bit of flexibility for both our feline friends and puppies, who aren't quite ready for microchipping.

"There will also be a range of activities for the whole family to enjoy including dog grooming services, hydrobaths, nail clipping, and plenty of pet accessories for sale.

"You can even try your hand at navigating an agility course with your dog, all while enjoying refreshments from the onsite coffee van."

Gracemere resident Robyn Ure experienced the benefits of microchipping firsthand when her beloved Pomeranian X Lucy went missing recently.

"After returning from a family trip and amid ongoing renovations at home, we noticed something was amiss when Lucy, who usually never strays too far from us, didn't come running for her treat," Mrs Ure said.

"Our family spent the next several hours anxiously searching for her until we received a call from Council that she had been found by staff at the local daycare.

"Because Lucy is so small and fluffy, we feared the worst. Getting a pet microchipped is a one-time effort and worth every penny in my opinion if it means bringing your beloved pet home.

"We are so relieved that she is back with us – healthy, happy and safe."

Microchip Your Mate will be held at Duthie Park in Frenchville on Saturday, 13 July 2024 from 9.00am to 1.00pm.
