Smiles And Splashes As Sod Turns In Ellenbrook

Ground has officially broken at the eagerly awaited Swan Active Ellenbrook site, marking the start of the facility's construction.

The $108 million regional-level aquatic and recreation centre is expected to be completed in 2027.

The Australian Government has committed $30 million to the project and the Western Australian Government has committed $12 million.

Land for the site has been provided to the City of Swan by the State Government, allowing the City to build the facility in a prime location and to the size required to support future expansion of the centre.

On the same day as the sod-turning, the City hosted its inaugural Ellenbrook Inflatable Day event which brought fun and celebration to the rapidly growing community while they wait for the construction of the leisure facility.

It was all smiles as the Swan community enjoyed water activities including inflatable waterslides, food trucks, roving entertainment, and a dunk tank.

Deputy Premier and Member for West Swan Rita Saffioti MLA said she was thrilled to see the start of construction at Swan Active Ellenbrook.

"We're delivering on our promises for the people of Ellenbrook and soon they will have the regional-level leisure facility they deserve, in the heart of a well-connected precinct," she said.

Member for Hasluck Tania Lawrence MP said the start of works at Swan Active Ellenbrook signals a new era for the community.

"We all know that Ellenbrook has waited a long time for a pool," she said.

"It is fantastic to now see the ground being broken on this project.

"The State and Federal Governments have provided $42 million to get this done and your local MPs Rita Saffioti MLA, Jessica Shaw MLA and I, are committed to delivering modern aquatic and recreation facilities to Ellenbrook, working with the City of Swan."

Member for Swan Hills Jessica Shaw MLA said the sod turning is a step closer to the leisure facility coming to fruition.

"Another milestone for Swan Active Ellenbrook ticked off the list – construction of this incredible leisure facility will see the Ellenbrook community continue to thrive," she said.

Tanya Richardson, City of Swan Mayor, instigated the event and said that the community deserves to celebrate the delivery of large-scale and community-driven projects in the area.

"We're hitting some major project milestones, especially with the sod turning kicking off construction of Swan Active Ellenbrook.

"Ellenbrook is home to one of our fastest-growing populations and it is truly rewarding to activate this area for the thriving community."
