Council's 2023/24 road reseal program is underway, with road maintenance and renewal works in progress across the Tweed Shire.
Manager Roads and Stormwater Danny Rose said the program, which will continue through to February 2024, underscores Council's commitment to maintaining a safe and connected road network for the Tweed community.
"Council will invest approximately $3.2 million in the 2023/24 road reseal program as part of its $20 million annual roads budget, which funds the delivery and maintenance of the Tweed's 1,200 km road network," Mr Rose said.
"Road resealing is an important process that significantly prolongs the lifespan of bitumen surfaces, reduces long-term maintenance costs and keeps our road network in optimal condition.
"Just like a house or car requires regular maintenance, our roads need attention to withstand constant exposure to traffic, sun, high and low temperatures and wet weather.
"Road resealing involves applying a layer of hot bitumen and stone to the road surface, providing a waterproof, durable surface for vehicles.
"We urge road users and pedestrians to avoid driving or walking on resealed roads during works unless they have obtained prior approval from onsite crews. This helps ensure the quality and safety of the resealing process."
Road users may experience brief traffic delays when lanes are temporarily closed to carry out resealing. Council thanks the community for their patience during these works.
Road renewal and rehabilitation projects are prioritised based on road condition, age, crash history, traffic volumes and concurrent underground infrastructure works, such as water and sewerage pipe replacements.
