Solar public bin trial in Clayton and Mount Waverley

Three solar compaction bins have been installed in Clayton and Mount Waverley in a one-month trial to assist with waste compaction and bin capacity.

The existing waste bin at the rear of the Clayton arcade has been replaced with a 240L solar compaction bin and the waste and recycling bins in Hamilton Place, Mount Waverley, have been replaced with the larger recycling and waste bins.

Solar panels power the compaction of the contents of the bins, potentially fitting eight times more material in the bin.

The waste team will monitor performance of the bin and receive alerts when they are filling up.
