Mornington Police are investigating an attempted theft from a bottle shop in Mount Martha on 6 February.
Investigators believe a man entered a Lochiel Ave business about 4pm.
Once inside the store he placed a bottle of wine in his bag and attempted to leave the store without paying.
He was stopped at the scene by passers-by who were able to safely retrieve the wine, before he managed to flee on foot.
Investigators have released images of a man who they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.
