Southampton rises to top 12 in UK in World University Rankings 2023

THE World Rankings

The University of Southampton is celebrating climbing four places to joint 12th place in the UK, and 16 places to 108th overall, in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.

This success builds upon other league tables results published this year, adding further recognition that Southampton is one of the best places to study. The University is among the top 16 UK universities in the latest Guardian University Guide, the Times / Sunday Times University Guide, the Complete University Guide, the QS Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings and the THE World University Rankings.

Among the five individual categories that are measured to compile the THE global rankings, Southampton is 51st in the world for International Outlook, and Research is the most improved score, rising 44 places to 150th.

President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mark E. Smith, said: "I'm delighted we have increased our position in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. This follows our outstanding progress in the QS World University Rankings where we are in the top 80 in the world. I would like to thank everyone for their continued dedication and commitment which make these successes possible."

To compile the global ranking, the THE evaluates five aspects of a university's performance: teaching, research, citations, international outlook and industry income.

This year, nearly 1,800 universities are ranked. Visit the THE website to view the full World University Rankings for 2023 and the UK Best Universities table.
