Southern Cross Excels in Life Sciences, Psychology Rankings

Southern Cross University

Southern Cross University has posted another impressive result in the latest Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject released on Wednesday, led by Life Sciences and gains in Psychology, Social and Physical Sciences.

The results have pushed Southern Cross to the top of the Regional Universities Network in Psychology and among the top 300 institutions globally in this subject.

Southern Cross has a long history of high-impact psychology research, from the psychology of organ donation to the design of sports programs for mental health and coaching to increase physical activity .

Education placed in the top 400, as did Social Sciences, moving up a band on last year's result together with Physical Sciences, which now places in the top 500.

The University maintained its top 300 position for Life Sciences, which measures Agriculture and Forestry, Biological Sciences and Sport Science. This reflects an area of constant activity and growth at Southern Cross in recent years, including the introduction of specialist agriculture degrees, the creation of the Harvest to Health research cluster and leading research in sports performance .

The University will introduce a Bachelor of Veterinary Technology for the first time in 2025, followed by a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine with Honours in 2026, which will also contribute to the Life Sciences category.

"It's another fabulous result in the rankings. Beyond the simple numbers I think it's important to reflect on the great volume of work and research activity happening at the University in these areas, driven by our passionate researchers, academics and students.

"We are a small regional University but we are shining on the world stage," said Professor Mary Spongberg, the University's Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research).
