Thousands of runners are practising their sprint finish ahead of the Southern Cross University 10km Run this weekend.
The race is a part of the iconic Gold Coast Marathon powered by Chery weekend of events, with Southern Cross University celebrating 16 years as proud naming sponsor of the 10km Run.
University experts and Health students will also be put through their paces in the ever-popular Recovery Hub across marathon weekend.
Southern Cross University Exercise Science lecturer and Professional Practice Lead Dr Jena Buchan and a team of experts will provide advice and a 100-point recovery program, with Osteopathy and Exercise Science students offering cross-disciplinary treatments, free massage and facilitated stretching and rolling.
The University's National Centre of Naturopathic Medicine will also offer therapeutic teas to assist recovery.
Dr Buchan said the health team will also be available throughout the ASICS Expo ahead of race weekend, held at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre from today Thursday 29 June to Saturday 1 July, offering pre-race health checks, personalised advice and an expert panel.
"We're there to help runners maximise their physical and mental prep ahead of their race, and give the support they need after they cross that finish line, especially for first-time runners," supervisor Dr Buchan said.
"It's a great opportunity for our health students to get immersed in that environment and atmosphere, and offer supervised treatment to race participants straight after their event."
Osteopathy supervisor Kristy Buist said the Recovery Hub "offers students a chance to apply their knowledge in a real-world setting, collaborate with other healthcare professionals and witness the positive impact of osteopathic treatment on athletes' recovery."
Even if you're not competing, you can still cheer on the 200+ runners in Team SCU across all events this Saturday and Sunday at Gold Coast Marathon powered by Chery. Southern Cross University Vice-President (Engagement) Ben Roche will fire the Southern Cross University 10km Run starter gun and Deputy Chancellor Murray d'Almeida will present the Southern Cross University 10km Run awards.
In its 44th year, the Gold Coast Marathon powered by Chery is a certified World Athletics Label Road Race, attracting more than 18,000 runners.
