Action needed now: Victoria confirmed as 'crime capital' under Jacinta Allan's watch

The need for urgent action is clear as Victorians demand change to restore safety and security across the state.

Stark reporting from the Herald Sun reveals Victorians are now falling victim to almost twice as many crimes as New South Wales.

They report since 2015, New South Wales has successfully reduced offences across four key categories from 122,107 to 97,553. In sharp contrast, Victoria's crime numbers in these categories soared from 131,140 to 176,729, with a difference of nearly 80,000 incidents.

These figures, encompassing burglary, car theft, theft from cars, and retail theft, show that while both states had similar crime statistics a decade ago, Victoria is now facing unprecedented levels of offending.

Meanwhile crime statistics, released Thursday, confirm Victoria is experiencing a significant crime surge, with leading law enforcement officials describing the situation as "totally unacceptable." In the past year alone, overall offending has surged by 16%, the highest year-on-year increase in the last decade. Theft remains the largest driver of this spike, with theft from motor vehicles the most common offence.

Alarming trends include a 41% increase in car theft and a 16% rise in crimes committed by youths aged 10–17.

The need for urgent action is clear as Victorians demand change to restore safety and security across the state.

Shadow Minister for Police, David Southwick, said: "Under Jacinta Allan's leadership, we have become the nation's crime capital, with burglaries, car thefts, and retail theft surging ahead of New South Wales. The only thriving industry in Victoria appears to be crime."

"This didn't happen overnight; it has been years in the making. The reason is simple—Labor is soft on crime, and there are no consequences for committing a crime in Victoria."

"Labor can't manage crime and Victorians are paying the price."
