Swan Hill Rural City Council is urging spectators attending the football and netball finals at Woorinen Recreation Reserve to plan ahead due to a temporary road closure affecting Woorinen Road. This closure, between McCallum Street and 150 Woorinen Road, is necessary for essential road rehabilitation works.
Council's Director of Infrastructure, Leah Johnston, announced that the road will be closed until September 30, 2024.
"The temporary road closure is essential for road rehabilitation efforts, which will significantly improve this stretch of road. We are excited to address long-standing safety concerns and enhance the overall quality of the road," Ms. Johnston stated.
"The rehabilitation works will involve a full reconstruction of the road, including subgrade and shoulders, as well as the construction and shaping of the table drain.
"We understand that this will be an added inconvenience for local football and netball spectators heading to the finals in Woorinen this weekend.
"During this period, traffic will be redirected through alternative routes. Detours will guide drivers to use Memorial Drive, Bish Road, and Karinie Street. Residents in the western end of Butterworth Street should utilise William Street to navigate around the closure.
"We apologise for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to enhance our road infrastructure and ensure greater safety," Ms. Johnston added.
